PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a 10 digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a plastic card, by the Income Tax Department. PAN enable department to link to all transaction (TCS/TDS credits, income tax return or any other transaction) of holder with the department. So PAN acts as an identifier of the holder with tax department.
